Kota Blue Limestone
Kota Blue is the most-specified variant of Kota limestone, a fine-grained sedimentary stone from Rajasthan with a distinctive greenish-blue base. Traditional Indian flooring for verandahs, courtyards, institutional floors and modern Kerala homes.
Material notes, Kota Blue Limestone
Kota Blue is the most-specified of the three Kota stone variants. It’s a fine-grained limestone with a greenish-blue base, quarried from the Kota district of Rajasthan and supplied across India for traditional and institutional floor work.
We hold Kota Blue in 20mm, 25mm and 30mm thicknesses at our Kundannoor godown. Standard sizes are 30×30 cm, 40×40 cm, 60×30 cm and 60×60 cm, with random “crazy Kota” shapes available for organic-pattern paving.
Where Kota Blue suits
- Verandahs and courtyards in traditional Kerala homes, where the greenish-blue tone reads beautifully against laterite walls.
- Drawing-room flooring in mirror-polished finish for a deep teal-grey reading.
- Bathroom floor in honed or sandblasted finish for natural slip resistance.
- Pool surrounds and pool decking in sandblasted finish.
- Institutional flooring, schools, banks, government buildings, temples.
- Staircase treads in mirror-polished, with anti-slip nosing strips.

Care and sealing
Kota Blue is sold sealed from the godown. Daily care: dry sweep then damp mop with warm water and pH-neutral cleaner. Reseal every 18 to 24 months for interior surfaces, every 12 months for outdoor.
Avoid bleach, vinegar, lime juice and acidic kitchen cleaners, which can etch unsealed surfaces. Wipe spills immediately if they occur.

Common questions on Kota Blue Limestone
What does Kota Blue actually look like? +
A greenish-blue base with subtle variation, denser and slightly cooler-toned than Kota Brown or Kota Black. Mirror-polished it reads as deep teal-grey; honed or sandblasted it reads more muted, almost slate-blue.
Is Kota Blue suitable for outdoor use in Kerala? +
Yes, in honed, sandblasted or natural-cleft finish. Sealed correctly and resealed every 18-24 months, Kota Blue is one of the better outdoor-paving options for Kerala courtyards, pool surrounds and exterior steps. Avoid polished finish outside, glare and slip risk.
How does Kota Blue compare to marble for residential flooring? +
Lower glare, lower maintenance, much lower cost per square foot. Less luxurious presence than premium marble but more durable in active-household use. Suits warm-toned traditional and Kerala-vernacular interiors particularly well.
